How can we teach our new puppy to leave our adult dogs alone? We have a new puppy with a very spunky and dominant personality. She can be very sweet and calm, but is more frequently very energetic, squirmy and a little crazy at times. Our two older dogs (8 & 10 yrs old) are very calm and more submissive in personality.

Lab puppy goes nuts when meeting new people. Unfortunately, people often interpret these signs as happiness. Many also tend to think that it’s cute when a dog acts like this, and wind up unknowingly encouraging the behavior. Curb your dog’s excitement and you’ll be preventing misbehaviors in the future, including aggression. An excited dog is not happy. A calm dog is. Hiking at the park also drains a lot of energy from puppy. I think it is because there are so many scents, so many people, dogs, a new environment, squirrels, and much more. 4. Keep things calm before sleep – Puppy Lara has a few high energy play sessions with my other dogs in the evening. Become a whole new kind of crazy around age 6-9 months – Welcome to life with your teenage puppy! See: Surviving Your Dog’s Teen Months. Watch out if your puppy: Guards her food dish/toys/furniture – If your puppy growls or snaps when you approach her stuff or try to move her off the furniture, you’ll need to work on that. This is a. My puppy spent the first 6 months of his life in a shelter and is having a hard time learning leash manners. He always tries to run to new people and dogs because he wants to be their friend. I would prefer if he would not run at others mostly because he is about 50 pounds and it is difficult to keep him from running.

My dog goes nuts when she sees people on walks and will not listen to me at all. So I have a 6 month old puppy that is a total butt when it comes to going on walks. I'm clicker training her and she's slowly getting it, unless there is a person. Every program developed for a dog is different and based on the dog’s history and needs. Generally, it will involve desensitization and counter conditioning to people coming into the dog’s territory, coupled with training the dog to go to a specified place, such as a crate or a mat, when the scary person arrives 1. Mollie absolutely loves it in her new home, with her new mum, 2x 11yo children, another Lab as a friend etc. She couldn’t look or be happier. But when she sees her previous owner she goes absolutely nuts with excitement to say hello! She’s happy where she is, but hasn’t forgotten him. She’s just happy and knows she has it good where she is! The important thing is to reassure your new puppy so that she knows her crate is still a safe place for her to be.. I have a 15 week old puppy lab female shes a lovley dog its just her biting people especially my step son he walks in the kitchen and she jumps on the back of his leg and bits his calf really hard and ive told her no and tapped.

Your puppy has been home alone for a few hours, then all of a sudden people start arriving back from school and work. Lucky’s environment goes from quiet and peaceful to a hive of activity. You can’t really blame Lucky for getting excited, but hyperactivity is not desirable, so corrective measures are necessary. I have a seventeen week old australian shepherd lab mix puppy. She's made huge improvements with walking on the leash, but whenever she sees other dogs or people she freezes and fixates on them. Then she starts pulling like crazy to get to them. She's not aggressive and just wants to play, but when she gets there, she jumps all over the person or dog and pees everywhere. Even if people are passing you but not interested in greeting your dog, you can still practice calm behavior around other people. If you see an exciting person across or down the street, even if you do not think your dog sees her, say “person,” “yes” and reward. Your dog’s sense of smell is so unbelievably powerful. Introduce your new puppy to safe dogs before the age of 20 weeks. If you didn’t socialize your puppy properly or you got your dog when he was older than 20 weeks, you are playing catch-up, but.

A lot of people fail because they don’t take the simple step of making sure they have something to reward the dog with when he gets it right. You need to be very generous at the beginning of training a new skill. To start with make sure there is always a pot of training treats handy in your home. Continue to ring the bell or knock every 15 seconds for 5 to 10 repetitions. Stop, put the treats away and repeat later. Your goal is that when the dog hears the bell ring or a knock on the door, he immediately comes to you for a treat instead of going crazy at the door. When this happens, you are ready to plug in a new behavior. 2. It may be cute to see a puppy bouncing all over the place and jumping up but we encourage you to start building the habits you want later NOW. If your dog is happy to see someone, that is healthy and normal! We’re not saying to stop them being happy to see new people. It’s when they become over the top that it isn’t healthy. Hi. We have an almost two year old, female Shih-Tzu. She is a very social, exuberant puppy. She “loves” people. Jumps on them & tries to nibble their ears. She runs through the house like a crazy puppy & makes us laugh until we cry. She is a “character.” We now live in the country, but no fence. 60 Acres.
