Lab Puppy Scratching A Lot

My dog is scratching at her right ear a lot, and whining, and shaking her head. I can't see anything in her ear but it seems to help if I rub her ear, especially at the base of the ear. She did this last night in the middle of the night, and again tonight. It didn't seem to bother her yesterday during the day.
